NEWSFLASH: Erdogan, Shehbaz Sharif Discuss Bilateral Ties Following India-Pakistan Military Flare-Up

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Sunday. The meeting comes in the aftermath of the recent military standoff between India and Pakistan, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India's subsequent Operation Sindoor that crippled 20 per cent of Pakistani Air Force strength in less than 23 minutes.

According to a statement from Erdogan’s office, the leaders reviewed cooperation in key areas including defense, energy, and transportation. 

Sharif, in a post on social media platform X, expressed gratitude to President Erdogan for his “resolute support” during what he called “Pakistan’s overwhelming victory” in the recent regional crisis. The damages done to Pakistani airbases, however, remain exposed for the world to see.

“We reviewed progress in our multifaceted bilateral engagements, particularly in trade and investment,” he said, calling the bonds between the two countries “unshakable.”

While no direct reference was made by Turkey to the specifics of the India-Pakistan standoff, the meeting highlights Ankara’s continued alignment with Islamabad in regional and multilateral forums.
