Indian Anti-Terror Delegation Led by Former UN Diplomat Shashi Tharoor Touches Down in New York

The New York leg is part of India’s ongoing 33-nation global diplomatic mission launched in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. The mission aims to expose terror financing networks, engage global leadership, and amplify India’s security and foreign policy priorities through multilateral dialogue and parliamentary engagement.

Led by Dr. Tharoor—a former Minister of State for External Affairs and a seasoned diplomat—the delegation is expected to engage with U.S. lawmakers, think tanks, Indian diaspora groups, and representatives from the United Nations. These engagements are designed to present India’s case on terrorism, advocate for stronger counterterror mechanisms, and foster cultural and political ties.

This visit comes amid similar high-level stops in Germany, South Korea, Qatar and Africa, and Japan. It also complements India’s participation in the BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil, illustrating the breadth of India's soft power and hard diplomacy approaches under Operation Sindoor.

With India–US ties evolving as a cornerstone of Indo-Pacific security and multilateral cooperation, this visit carries significant symbolic and strategic weight. The Indian delegation’s messaging is expected to emphasize shared democratic values, security collaboration, and the need for a unified global stance against terrorism.
