Indian MPs Pay Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Moscow as Anti-Terror Diplomacy Expands

Members of India’s All-Party Parliamentary Delegation offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, underscoring India’s enduring commitment to peace, non-violence, and justice—even as it leads a robust global campaign against terrorism.

The tribute was led by Members of Parliament Kanimozhi, Rajeev Rai, Capt. Brijesh Pathak, P.C. Gupta, and Dr. Ashok K. Mittal, and supported by senior diplomat Manjeev Singh Puri. The event in Moscow forms part of India’s 33-nation diplomatic outreach to counter cross-border terrorism and rally international consensus around New Delhi’s zero-tolerance position.

The Moscow leg builds upon previous engagements in Germany, the UAE, and Japan, reinforcing a consistent message: India stands firm in the face of terrorism, and it expects the global community to act with unity and resolve.

The delegation’s visit to Russia is especially significant given the strong defence and strategic ties between the two nations. In earlier discussions, India and Russia jointly proposed a global anti-terror legal framework, highlighting the need for enforceable international norms against state-sponsored extremism.

While the Gandhi tribute emphasized shared moral values, Indian lawmakers also held consultations in Moscow on deepening coordination to combat terror financing, cyber radicalization, and transnational insurgent networks. The delegation noted that Russia remains a critical partner in India’s long-term counterterror strategy, including joint efforts to document and isolate entities that back groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxies involved in attacks such as Pahalgam.

Members reiterated that India’s actions in operations like Operation Sindoor have been precise, limited, and fully compliant with international norms. They emphasized that while India seeks peace, it will not compromise on national security or allow diplomacy to be derailed by terror threats.

By honoring Gandhi in Moscow, the delegation symbolically linked India’s historic legacy of non-violence with its present-day global campaign to eliminate terrorism—peacefully where possible, decisively where necessary, as a source put it over telephone a while back, just if you thought this was a thoughtless exercise!
