India Slams Pakistan's Hypocrisy on Civilian Protection at UN Security Council
India delivered a strong rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, calling its stance on protecting civilians “grossly hypocritical” amid recent cross-border hostilities and terror-related incidents.

India’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, challenged Pakistan’s credibility on civilian protection, citing its leadership’s public tributes to slain terrorists and recent military actions targeting civilian areas.
“We just recently saw senior government, police and military officials pay respects at the funeral of noted terrorists targeted by Operation Sindoor. A nation that makes no distinction between terrorists and civilians has no credentials to speak about protecting civilians,” Harish said.
The ambassador highlighted Pakistani army attacks that led to over 20 civilian deaths and 80 injuries, including shelling on religious and humanitarian sites such as temples, gurudwaras, convents, and medical facilities.
India also referenced major terror incidents linked to Pakistan, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the April 2025 killing of tourists in Pahalgam. “The victims of Pakistani terrorism have been predominantly civilians,” Harish stated.
Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam attack, targeted nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling and drone incursions, to which India responded by striking key Pakistani military bases, including Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi and Rahim Yar Khan. The exchange ceased on May 10 following a mutual understanding.
Harish also drew attention to the suffering of civilians in India’s border regions during the escalation. Pakistani artillery caused extensive destruction in Jammu and Kashmir’s frontier villages, leaving many homes uninhabitable.
He further warned of emerging threats posed by terrorist groups using advanced technologies and stressed the importance of national capacities and adherence to international humanitarian principles in conflict zones.
“Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity must guide all Security Council actions,” Harish said, urging concrete steps to implement existing UN resolutions on civilian protection.
