Abhishek Banerjee Joins South Korea Leg of India’s Global Anti-Terror Drive

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, who recently made international headlines in Tokyo for his uncompromising remarks on cross-border terrorism, has now arrived in Seoul as part of a high-level, cross-party Indian parliamentary delegation. The visit is the latest leg in India’s sweeping 33-capital diplomatic initiative to build global momentum against state-sponsored terrorism, launched in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

The delegation, led by MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, landed in the Republic of Korea (ROK) on May 24, 2025, and includes a diverse group of legislators and diplomats: Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, John Brittas, Pradan Baruah, Dr. Hemang Joshi, former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, and veteran diplomat Mohan Kumar.

Over the course of their Seoul visit, the team will hold key meetings with senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, engage members of the South Korean National Assembly, and participate in roundtables with media and think tanks. The core message: India’s counterterror response is measured but unyielding, and the global community must act decisively to isolate and confront state-backed extremist groups.

The Seoul leg deepens India’s Indo-Pacific diplomatic architecture, following earlier stops in Japan, Russia, UAE, Europe, Germany, and Africa and the Middle East. Each of these missions has been tasked with countering Pakistan’s disinformation campaigns, exposing its terror infrastructure, and mobilizing partners in the global south and developed world alike.

Banerjee’s role in the delegation is especially notable. In Tokyo, he made headlines by calling Pakistan the “wild handler” of terrorism, drawing global attention to India’s blunt shift in language and posture. His presence in Seoul reflects India’s strategy of using both diplomatic and parliamentary voices to deliver one unified message: the world cannot remain neutral in the face of terror. The delegations are also strategically engaging Indian diaspora communities to serve as information conduits and amplifiers of India’s message abroad.

The South Korea leg builds on India’s strong Indo-Pacific alignment, complementing partnerships with nations like Japan and Australia on maritime security, cyber deterrence, and regional stability. As South Korea balances its own strategic interests in the region, India sees an opportunity for deepening bilateral security dialogues and enhancing cooperation on intelligence sharing, counter-radicalization, and supply chain security.

Earlier this week, EAM Jaishankar’s visit to Berlin received firm backing from the newly elected German leadership for India’s anti-terror stance and for concluding an India-EU Free Trade Agreement. Likewise, in the Gulf, delegations to the UAE and Qatar helped shift regional perceptions by highlighting documented cases of support for proxy terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front.

With each capital it visits, India’s 33-nation diplomatic offensive is drawing clearer global alignment around its long-articulated principles: “Talks and terror cannot go together,” and “blood and water cannot flow together.” As this message now lands in Seoul, it comes not just with documents and dialogue, but with lived national conviction—and a growing coalition of global partners echoing the call.
