India Steps Up Terrorism Dialogue with Japan During Tokyo Visit

An Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation continued its diplomatic outreach in Tokyo with a series of high-level meetings focused on counter-terrorism and bilateral cooperation. The visit builds on India’s broader campaign following Operation Sindoor, aimed at reinforcing its global message of zero tolerance towards terrorism and strengthening international partnerships to combat cross-border threats.

Led by MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, the delegation met Japanese lawmakers including Fukushiro Nukaga and Takeshi Iwaya, both of whom expressed solidarity after the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Their dialogue emphasized Indo-Pacific peace and strengthened ties in security research.

Jha reiterated India’s position: “We make no distinction between terrorists and those who harbor them.” He called for enforcing the UNSC April 25 statement and noted international support from Germany and other allies.

The delegation met Yasuhiro Hanashi and Minoru Kihara to deepen coordination on intelligence, legal cooperation, and strategic alignment. Discussions also reflected India's expanding partnerships post-Operation Sindoor diplomacy.

Meeting Speaker Nukaga built on his earlier India visit, reinforcing Japan’s firm support for India’s anti-terrorism doctrine, particularly in light of escalating global tensions and asymmetric threats.

Briefings at the Indian Embassy emphasized dismantling terror financing structures and called for a global coalition against states enabling cross-border extremism.

Talks with think tanks and assembly leaders underscored a common goal: neutralize transnational terrorism and cyber-propaganda. Japan’s think tanks supported India’s diplomatic outreach strategy through Asia and Europe.

Beginning with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Edogawa, the visit underscored India’s peace diplomacy. Delegates highlighted leadership under Prime Minister Modi, calling for a concerted campaign against the weaponization of terrorism.

With over 30 nations engaged, this outreach aligns with India's plan to position the Northeast, veterans, and parliamentarians as pivotal voices in public diplomacy and coordinated strategic messaging.
