India to Spotlight Cultural Diplomacy at BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meet in Brazil

India is set to reinforce its commitment to global cultural cooperation as it prepares to participate in the upcoming BRICS Culture Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled for May 26, 2025, in Brasília, Brazil. The Indian delegation will be led by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who will represent New Delhi at this high-level multilateral gathering.

The meeting comes at a strategically important time for India, which is actively deepening its diplomatic engagements through initiatives such as Operation Sindoor—a 33-capital outreach focusing on counterterror diplomacy—and recent bilateral cultural exchanges with nations including Germany, South Korea, and Congo.

The BRICS forum—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—offers India a platform to shape global cultural narratives while advancing people-to-people ties. This year’s meeting will focus on strengthening multilateral cultural cooperation, enhancing institutional frameworks, and initiating joint efforts to preserve the rich cultural diversity among BRICS member states.

Minister Shekhawat is expected to underline India’s leadership in heritage preservation, its global promotion of traditional knowledge systems, and its expanding creative industries sector. His intervention will highlight India’s commitment to using cultural diplomacy as a bridge for international collaboration, particularly in an era of complex geopolitical challenges.

The Indian delegation will also explore partnerships in performing arts, visual and literary exchanges, heritage conservation, and cross-cultural digital initiatives. These efforts align with India’s call for an inclusive global order rooted in dialogue, collaboration, and shared heritage—a message echoed across India’s recent diplomatic campaigns.

Beyond the multilateral sessions, the Indian delegation is expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from the other BRICS nations to deepen cultural ties, co-host cultural festivals, and formalize exchange programs. These conversations are part of a growing push to embed India’s civilizational strengths into its foreign policy toolkit, complementing its assertive stands on issues such as terrorism and strategic alignment.
