Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Pushes India–US Tech & Trade Ties in Washington
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with U.S. Under Secretary for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler in Washington on Tuesday. The engagement focused on fortifying India–US ties in critical and emerging technologies, with both sides affirming the importance of convening the next India–US Strategic Trade Dialogue at the earliest.

According to a statement by the Embassy of India in Washington, the meeting is part of Misri’s broader three-day official visit to the United States from May 27–29, aimed at advancing diplomatic and technological dialogue following the momentum of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February 2025 visit to the U.S.

The upcoming India–US Strategic Trade Dialogue is viewed as a foundational platform to align regulatory frameworks, enable secure supply chains, and promote mutual growth in frontier sectors such as semiconductors, AI, space tech, quantum computing, and defense-grade electronics.
This dialogue gains significance under the COMPACT initiative (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce and Technology), jointly launched during PM Modi’s summit with President Donald Trump in February. The initiative aligns with recent developments across Asia and complements India’s expanded cooperation in Qatar, Russia, and Brazil.
Embassy sources confirmed additional meetings between Misri and senior U.S. officials are scheduled to explore dual-use technology transfers and digital governance cooperation.
