Indian Parliamentary Delegation Arrives in South Africa for Global Anti-Terror Push
A high-level Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Supriya Sule arrived in South Africa today for a three-day official visit as part of India’s expansive diplomatic campaign following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The visit is part of Operation Sindoor, a coordinated effort to galvanize international support for India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
The all-party delegation—comprising senior MPs, former ministers, and seasoned diplomats—will hold engagements in Pretoria, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. During their visit, the delegation is scheduled to meet South African parliamentarians, members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation, and key figures from the media, think tanks, and academic institutions.

According to the High Commission of India in Pretoria, the visit is grounded in the long-standing strategic partnership between India and South Africa, which encompasses robust cooperation in political, security, and multilateral domains. The South African government had strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack in a statement released by its Department of International Relations and Cooperation on April 23. The current visit is seen as both a diplomatic follow-through and a reaffirmation of shared values between the two democracies.
The Indian delegation is expected to articulate New Delhi’s position on terrorism with clarity, emphasizing national unity across party lines on the issue and underlining India’s firm resolve to combat cross-border terrorism. Officials accompanying the delegation said the visit also aims to foster mutual understanding on counter-terror strategies, reinforce political solidarity, and explore deeper cooperation through bilateral and multilateral forums, including BRICS and the Global South agenda.
India has deployed seven such all-party delegations to key world capitals as part of its outreach, sending a clear message of political consensus and strategic urgency. The delegation in South Africa represents a broad spectrum of India’s political landscape and includes Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishnadevarayalu, Anand Sharma, V. Muraleedharan, and Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin.
Analysts view the Pretoria visit as a crucial step in deepening counter-terror cooperation with African partners, especially at a time when transnational security threats increasingly intersect across continents. South Africa’s early and unequivocal condemnation of the Pahalgam attack has added a layer of diplomatic momentum to the engagement.
While no bilateral agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, Indian officials suggest that the political signaling and trust-building from such high-level exchanges are vital for shaping long-term strategic alignment.
The delegation will also engage with representatives of the Indian diaspora and civil society, reinforcing the broader message of solidarity and partnership in combating terrorism.
