Ayush Joins WHO Classification in Boost to India’s Global Influence
In a landmark development that strengthens India’s global identity not just as a rising military power but also a custodian of wellness, the Ministry of Ayush has signed an agreement with the World Health Organization. This is aimed at launching a dedicated Traditional Medicine Module under the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI).

This WHO-backed classification will bring globally recognized coding to traditional Indian therapies—such as Panchakarma, Yoga therapy, Unani regimens, and Siddha interventions—putting them on par with modern medical procedures in clinical documentation, insurance, and research.
But this is more than a technical update—it is India’s declaration of narrative leadership. As the country drives Operation Sindoor across diplomatic, military, and ideological fronts—from border offensives in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, to international outreach in Seoul, Doha, New York, Bahrain, and Kinshasa—this achievement adds a new dimension to India’s soft power arsenal.
Where it fights terror with policy, precision, and diplomacy, India also now heals with tradition, culture, and universal health values. It is a strategy few nations possess: to counter extremism on one flank, and to export peace through preventive healthcare on another.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus welcomed India’s $3 million contribution and global commitment, stating: “We welcome 🇮🇳’s continued commitment to #HealthForAll.”
