Indian Lawmakers in Bahrain to Strengthen Global Stand Against Terrorism

An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation has arrived in Bahrain as part of New Delhi’s widening global diplomatic initiative to mobilize international consensus against cross-border terrorism. The delegation, led by Member of Parliament Jay Panda, was received at the airport by Indian Ambassador Vinod K. Jacob, marking the beginning of a series of engagements in the Gulf region.

The visit comes amid India’s assertive foreign policy campaign that seeks to build stronger, coordinated responses to state-sponsored terrorism and transnational threats. Bahrain represents another important stop in a growing list of countries where Indian delegations have engaged regional governments to align positions and intensify counterterror cooperation. Similar efforts have recently been undertaken in the UAE, Russia, Germany, and Japan.

The delegation’s agenda in Bahrain includes meetings with local officials, civil society, and diaspora representatives to highlight India’s concerns over cross-border terrorism, especially emanating from Pakistan. The visit reinforces India’s message that neutrality is not an option when dealing with terrorism, echoing its call for a “zero neutrality” doctrine outlined during earlier discussions in Tokyo.

This initiative is part of a broader outreach effort that has gained momentum in recent months. Senior Indian parliamentarians, including Shashi Tharoor and Supriya Sule, have already participated in international forums projecting India’s stance, as seen during the anti-terror diplomacy campaign earlier this year. India’s call for a globally coordinated framework to counter terrorism was also discussed during its participation in efforts to establish a global anti-terror law in cooperation with Russia.

In parallel, India has intensified its efforts at the United Nations, strongly rebutting Pakistan’s narrative and raising the issue of civilian protection during cross-border attacks at the UN Security Council. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has also repeatedly highlighted the international hypocrisy on ceasefire calls, criticizing selective outrage while terror groups remain active along India’s borders, as seen in his sharp remarks in recent addresses.

India’s approach has received increasing support from key allies. Germany has backed India’s right to act in self-defence against terrorism, while Japan has pledged long-term counterterror support and academic collaboration, including the launch of a joint research forum with India and Russia on transnational threats.

The Bahrain leg is expected to strengthen Gulf cooperation on security issues and reflects the growing geographic reach of India’s diplomatic strategy. From the Indo-Pacific to Europe and now deeper into the Gulf, New Delhi’s message remains consistent: terrorism must be confronted through unified and uncompromising international action.
