India Informed Pakistan Only After Striking Terror Camps: MEA
India on Thursday clarified that Pakistan was informed about the recent cross-border strikes on terror camps only after the operations were carried out, not in advance, as part of Operation Sindoor.
During the Ministry of External Affairs’ weekly briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the strikes were a sovereign exercise of India's right to respond to terrorism, and that the communication to Pakistan followed the action — not prior to it. This clarification comes in the wake of misinterpretations surrounding earlier remarks made by senior officials, including the External Affairs Minister.

The spokesperson confirmed that India acted decisively and lawfully to target terrorist infrastructure across the border, and then notified Pakistan. The clarification reinforces India’s position that it will not seek permission or give prior warning before acting on cross-border terror threats from across the Line of Control.
The response under Operation Sindoor came after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The operation saw Indian forces strike multiple terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and beyond, as part of a broader shift in India’s counterterrorism doctrine.
India has since launched a multi-nation diplomatic outreach to explain its doctrine of zero tolerance for terrorism and to call for accountability from states that sponsor or shelter terror networks. Statements from the External Affairs Minister and recent comments during Indo-Pacific dialogues reinforce that India reserves the right to act decisively in self-defence.
