Territorial Integrity: Macron Urges Hezbollah to Halt Attacks and Warns Israel Against Lebanon Ground Offensive

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday urged Hezbollah to immediately stop its attacks on Israel and called on Israel to avoid launching a ground offensive into Lebanon, warning that further escalation could endanger the entire Middle East as the widening Iran war spreads to new fronts.

Macron said he conveyed the message during talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, amid rising cross-border strikes between Israel and Hezbollah.

The French leader said Hezbollah’s continuing attacks were a “major error” that risks destabilising the region, while also stressing that Israel must respect Lebanon’s territorial integrity and return to the ceasefire framework along the border.

The intervention comes as Israel intensifies operations against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon while expanding its broader war against Iran.

Israeli forces have been moving deeper into Lebanese territory to establish what the military describes as forward defensive positions aimed at protecting northern Israeli communities from missile attacks.

Macron said France would continue working with international partners to prevent the conflict from escalating further and to reinforce the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces so that the country can exercise full control over its territory.

He also announced that Paris would launch immediate humanitarian initiatives to assist Lebanese civilians displaced by the fighting in the south of the country.

France has already begun deploying additional military assets in the region in what Macron described earlier as a strictly defensive posture. The aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, accompanied by escorting warships and air defence systems, has been ordered to the Mediterranean as tensions rise following U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks across the region.

The diplomatic push shows growing concern among European governments that the conflict, which began with airstrikes targeting Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure, could expand into a wider regional war involving multiple fronts from the Persian Gulf to the eastern Mediterranean.
