The spokesperson said the conflict has intensified in recent days and spread to other nations, resulting in mounting destruction and loss of life, while normal economic activity has slowed or halted in affected areas. As a proximate neighbor with “critical stakes” in regional stability, India views the developments with “great anxiety,” the statement said.
The government highlighted the presence of almost one crore Indian nationals across Gulf countries, describing their safety and well-being as a top priority. It noted that India’s trade routes and energy supply chains pass through the same geography, and warned that major disruptions would have serious economic consequences.
India also voiced firm opposition to attacks on merchant shipping, stating that some Indian nationals have lost their lives or are missing in recent days as a result of such incidents.
Reiterating its position, India called strongly for dialogue and diplomacy and emphasized the need for an early end to hostilities. The statement expressed grief over the lives lost since the conflict escalated.
Indian embassies and consulates in affected countries remain in close contact with Indian nationals and community organizations, issuing advisories and extending assistance to those stranded by the conflict, the spokesperson said. Missions will continue to proactively address consular matters arising from the situation.
The statement added that India is in touch with governments in the region and with other key partners. The Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister have held discussions with their counterparts regarding the evolving crisis.
The government said it will continue to closely monitor developments and take decisions in the national interest.
