India Issues Israel Safety Advisory as Netanyahu-Trump Joint Strikes on Iran Trigger Missile Retaliations

Israeli and United States forces launched coordinated military strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, triggering regional security alerts and this has prompted India to issue an urgent advisory warning its citizens in Israel to exercise “utmost caution and remain vigilant at all times” as fears of wider escalation spread across West Asia.

The Embassy of India in Tel Aviv said the advisory was issued “in view of the prevailing security situation in the region,” urging Indian nationals to “strictly adhere to the safety guidelines and instructions issued by the Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command” following missile exchanges and air-raid warnings across Israel.

The advisory instructed Indians to “remain in close proximity to designated shelters and familiarise themselves with the nearest protected spaces in their area of residence or work,” while advising citizens to “avoid all non-essential and unnecessary travel within Israel until further notice.”

The embassy further called on nationals to “monitor local news, official announcements, and emergency alerts regularly,” adding that it remained “closely engaged with the relevant authorities” and would continue issuing updates as required. A 24-hour emergency helpline and email contact were also circulated for citizens seeking assistance as the conflict unfolded.

The warnings came hours after Israel confirmed it had launched what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a joint operation with Washington “to remove the existential threat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran.”

In a public address, Netanyahu said that for decades “the Ayatollahs’ regime has chanted ‘Death to Israel’ and ‘Death to America,’” accusing Tehran of spilling Israeli and American blood and asserting that the regime “must not be allowed to arm itself with nuclear weapons that would enable it to threaten all of humanity.”

He urged Israelis to follow civil defence instructions, warning that during Operation “Lion’s Roar,” citizens would be required to demonstrate “patience and strength of spirit” in the days ahead.

Explosions were reported across Tehran, including near offices associated with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with witnesses describing plumes of smoke rising over parts of the Iranian capital.

Iranian authorities shut airspace and issued aviation warnings following the strikes, while Israel activated nationwide alerts and advised civilians to remain close to protected areas amid expectations of retaliation.

Iran subsequently launched missiles toward Israel, prompting sirens across major cities and emergency preparations by the Israeli military’s Home Front Command.

Israeli defence officials said the strikes were aimed at removing threats linked to Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities, though casualty details were not immediately confirmed.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed American participation, declaring that the United States military had begun “major combat operations in Iran” with the objective of “defend[ing] the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”

Trump described Iran as “the world’s number one state sponsor of terror” and said Washington’s longstanding policy was that Tehran “can never have a nuclear weapon.” He added that U.S. forces were undertaking “a massive and ongoing operation” to destroy Iranian missile capabilities and ensure that regional proxies could no longer threaten American forces or allies.

In his remarks, Trump warned that casualties were possible, acknowledging that “the lives of courageous American heroes may be lost,” while calling the campaign “a noble mission” intended to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran.

Addressing the Iranian population directly, he urged citizens to remain indoors because “bombs will be dropping everywhere,” and claimed the operation would create conditions for Iranians to “take over your government” once military objectives were completed.

The escalation follows weeks of heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and expanded U.S. military deployments to the region, including aircraft carriers, fighter jets and naval assets.

Israeli officials said the operation had been planned in coordination with Washington, while Iranian officials warned of “crushing” retaliation and signalled that American bases and personnel could become targets.

The rapidly deteriorating security environment has disrupted civilian aviation and daily life across the region, with airspace closures, emergency procedures at Israeli hospitals and widespread public safety alerts.

Governments worldwide are monitoring developments closely as military exchanges between Israel, Iran and the United States raise fears of a broader regional conflict with global economic and geopolitical consequences.
