Iran Drone Strike on Kuwait International Airport Injures Workers, Expands Gulf Front in Escalating US-Israel-Iran War

A drone strike blamed on Iran hit Kuwait International Airport on Saturday, injuring several airport workers and causing limited material damage, in what authorities described as a controlled incident unfolding amid rapidly escalating regional hostilities following U.S. and Israeli military operations inside Iran. The Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed that an unmanned aerial vehicle struck airport facilities, triggering emergency response protocols as officials moved to secure the site, assess damage and provide medical assistance to those injured, whose conditions were described as minor.

According to Kuwait’s aviation authority, approved emergency procedures were immediately activated after the drone impacted airport premises, with evaluation, treatment and operational adjustments launched under heightened safety measures.

Officials said the situation was “fully under control,” emphasizing that ensuring the safety of passengers and airport personnel remained the top priority while flight operations continued under close monitoring. Authorities added that damage was limited and that restoration and assessment work was ongoing in accordance with established aviation safety standards.

The incident occurred as Iran retaliated against coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes carried out earlier across Iranian territory, part of a widening confrontation tied to disputes over Tehran’s nuclear program and broader regional security tensions.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard statements indicated that missile and drone attacks were launched against Israeli targets and U.S. military installations across the Gulf, including locations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, signaling an expansion of the conflict beyond direct Israel-Iran exchanges.

Regional security sources and multiple media reports said Iran had previously warned that countries hosting U.S. military bases could become targets in the event of escalation.

Kuwaiti officials did not immediately provide details on the drone’s launch point but confirmed that the aircraft struck infrastructure within the airport complex, prompting heightened security measures and activation of regional air-defense systems.

Officials noted that the injuries sustained by airport personnel were light and that operations were being managed in a controlled manner despite the incident.

Emergency teams secured affected areas while aviation authorities assessed potential impacts on flight schedules. No immediate large-scale disruption to passenger services was confirmed, though monitoring continued as authorities evaluated risks linked to the broader regional security situation.

The drone used in the attack was described in reports as a Shahed-type loitering munition, a class of Iranian-designed unmanned aerial systems known for long-range capability and explosive impact upon reaching targets.

The targeting of a civilian aviation facility marked a significant development in the expanding confrontation, raising concerns about risks to commercial air travel across the Gulf, one of the world’s busiest aviation corridors.

The strike followed a series of retaliatory exchanges after U.S. and Israeli forces conducted coordinated attacks inside Iran aimed at degrading military capabilities and countering what Washington and Tel Aviv described as nuclear and security threats.

Iranian authorities said they were defending national sovereignty and warned that further responses could follow. Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation reiterated that emergency response measures had been executed according to established procedures, with repairs and operational reviews underway.

Officials have stressed that passenger safety remained paramount and said further updates would be released through official channels as assessments continue.
