One Month Into War, Netanyahu Claims Strategic Shift, Says Iran ‘Weaker Than Ever’ Amid Ongoing Offensive

One month into the ongoing war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on March 31 framed the conflict as a decisive and continuing campaign against Iran, saying “in every generation, they rise up against us to destroy us,” and asserting that Israel, alongside the United States, has “inflicted 10 plagues upon the axis of evil—and achieved 10 monumental accomplishments,” even as he acknowledged the human cost, stating that “there are also painful prices” and that “just yesterday… we lost four of our finest sons.”

Addressing the nation, Netanyahu said that after “a month into our joint campaign… we are systematically crushing the regime of terror,” describing Iran as a state that for decades called for the destruction of Israel and pursued that goal through “nuclear programs, ballistic missiles, and the funding and arming of terror proxies,” while claiming that the current war has reversed that trajectory, arguing that “before these operations Iran sought to strangle us, today we are strangling it,” and that “the ayatollah regime… is weaker than ever.”

He outlined what he called a strategic shift in the conflict, saying Israel has “created a strategic reversal,” “shaken the foundations of the terror regime,” and pushed back “two existential threats,” including Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, adding that operations have “removed the immediate threat of Iran arming itself with nuclear weapons and large numbers of ballistic missiles” and “crushed the regime’s industrial capacity to produce these weapons,” while also asserting that regional proxy forces have been significantly degraded and “can no longer threaten our existence as they once planned.”

Netanyahu further emphasised the role of the United States, stating that Israel is now “fighting shoulder to shoulder… in unprecedented cooperation between President Trump and the U.S. military and the Israel Defense Forces,” and said that beyond Washington, Israel is “creating new alliances with important countries in the region against the shared Iranian threat,” signalling a widening geopolitical alignment shaped by the war.

At the same time, he stressed that the conflict is ongoing, warning that “the campaign is not yet over,” while invoking historical parallels to argue that continued pressure is necessary, and calling for national unity by urging critics to “connect to the spirit of the people… the spirit of victory,” as Israel continues military operations across multiple fronts.

The remarks come at a moment when the war has entered its second month with sustained cross-border strikes, mounting casualties, and widening regional involvement, even as competing narratives over battlefield gains, strategic outcomes and the risk of further escalation continue to shape the trajectory of the conflict.
