Trump Says Iran is Using AI Disinformation in War, Denies Reports of U.S. Military Damage

Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of deploying artificial intelligence-generated propaganda to manipulate global coverage of the ongoing Iran-Israel war, rejecting reports circulating online and in some media outlets that suggested damage to U.S. military aircraft and naval assets in the Gulf.

In a lengthy statement posted on social media, Trump alleged that Iran has intensified what he described as a coordinated disinformation campaign during the Iran-Israel conflict, using AI-generated imagery and fabricated battlefield narratives to project military strength while suffering heavy losses from U.S. and Israeli strikes across Iranian territory.

“Iran has long been known as a master of media manipulation,” Trump wrote, arguing that recent images and videos circulating online — including purported footage of attacks on American ships and aircraft — were fabricated using artificial intelligence tools designed to mislead global audiences about the war’s trajectory.

The U.S. president specifically dismissed reports that American refueling aircraft had been shot down during the conflict, asserting that the planes referenced in media reports remain in service. He also rejected viral imagery suggesting that the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) had been attacked or set ablaze during operations linked to the Iran war, calling the claims “fake news generated by AI.”

Trump said the aircraft carrier had not been struck and remained fully operational, though the White House did not release additional operational details alongside the president’s remarks.

The comments come as the Iran-Israel war — which escalated sharply on February 28 with large-scale U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure — continues to generate competing narratives online about battlefield developments.

The conflict is increasingly characterized by a parallel information war unfolding across social media platforms, where unverified images and videos spread rapidly before independent confirmation becomes possible.

As IndianRepublic.in reported earlier in its extensive coverage of the Iran war, the conflict has evolved into a multi-domain confrontation involving missile attacks, drone strikes, maritime disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, and sophisticated cyber and information operations aimed at shaping international perception of the war.

Trump’s statement also sharply criticized sections of the American press, accusing some outlets of amplifying Iranian disinformation. He suggested that regulators should examine the broadcasting licenses of networks he accused of spreading false reports about the conflict.

The president praised Brendan Carr, head of the Federal Communications Commission, for reviewing whether certain news organizations using public airwaves had violated regulatory standards.

The remarks come amid growing concerns among security analysts about the role of artificial intelligence in modern warfare, where synthetic media and manipulated imagery can rapidly influence public perception of battlefield events. The Iran-Israel war has already produced a flood of competing claims about strikes on ships, aircraft, and energy infrastructure across the Gulf region.

As IndianRepublic.in noted earlier in its analysis of the war’s information dimension, the proliferation of AI-generated content during fast-moving military crises is making it increasingly difficult for journalists, governments, and the public to distinguish verified battlefield evidence from digitally manipulated propaganda.

The dispute over wartime narratives is unfolding as the wider Iran war continues to reshape global energy markets and maritime security, with the Strait of Hormuz shipping corridor emerging as a central geopolitical pressure point in the conflict.
