Modi–Milei Talks Mark Strategic Shift as India Eyes Latin America’s Lithium
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held wide-ranging delegation-level talks with Argentine President Javier Milei at Casa Rosada, the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, as India and Argentina moved to deepen their strategic partnership across critical sectors.
This visit, part of PM Modi's multilateral outreach to Latin America, marked a significant boost in India–Argentina bilateral ties, with both leaders reviewing ongoing cooperation and identifying new areas of synergy.

Discussions spanned across trade, energy, defence, agriculture, space, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals, among others—reflecting the shared intent to diversify and modernise the partnership.
PM Modi conveyed India’s interest in expanding collaboration in the critical minerals sector, particularly lithium, an area where Argentina holds global importance.
Talks also focused on developing frameworks for clean energy, boosting space collaboration through joint satellite missions, and creating innovation linkages between Indian and Argentine startups.
In a significant diplomatic gesture, President Milei reiterated Argentina's strong support for India’s fight against terrorism, with PM Modi thanking him for this expression of solidarity. Both sides affirmed the need to strengthen international cooperation to combat terror networks and promote global peace.
The two leaders also underlined the importance of people-to-people ties, emphasising cultural exchange, sports diplomacy, and educational opportunities.
With India aiming to expand its presence in the Global South, this engagement with Argentina signals a pivot towards Latin America as a key partner in India’s global strategic matrix.
The visit adds momentum to a year of proactive Indian diplomacy and sets the tone for future India–Argentina cooperation built on mutual respect, democratic values, and shared global aspirations.
