Russia, China, Pakistan Submit Draft UNSC Resolution on Iran Strikes

Following recent attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, Russia, China, and Pakistan have submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council, Mehr News Agency reported. The draft text addresses the escalating conflict but has not yet been brought to a vote.

According to Mehr News Agency, the proposed resolution, spanning approximately one and a half pages, includes two primary components.

First, it strongly condemns attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which operate under the oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The document states that such actions represent a serious threat to international peace and security and jeopardize the integrity of the IAEA’s regulatory framework. Notably, the text does not specifically mention the United States.

Second, the draft calls for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, urging all involved parties to return to diplomatic dialogue.

While the resolution has been submitted, it must still be formally circulated among Security Council members before any vote can take place. The earliest potential vote is expected no sooner than early or mid-next week.

Given the content of the resolution, especially its call for an immediate ceasefire, observers anticipate that the United States may exercise its veto should the measure proceed to a formal vote.
