Iran Urges UNSC Action as IAEA Warns of Collapse of Non-Proliferation Regime

Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to address what it described as a “blatant and unlawful act of aggression” following U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities. The 15-member Council convened at Tehran’s request amid mounting international concern over the escalating conflict.

Speaking at the meeting, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi warned that the global nuclear non-proliferation regime is at risk of collapse under current conditions. “We must act immediately and decisively to stop the fighting and return to serious and sustainable negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program,” Grossi stated.

While not directly condemning the U.S. and Israeli strikes, Grossi emphasized the need for “maximum restraint,” cautioning that further military escalation endangers human lives and obstructs diplomatic progress. “Our inspectors are in Iran, and their work requires a cessation of hostilities,” he concluded.

The Council has yet to announce any concrete measures in response to the developments.
