The visit follows weeks of heightened tensions after Israel launched attacks on Iran on June 13, targeting residential areas in Tehran and killing both civilians and military officials.
In response, Iran appointed new military leadership and launched retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa. This was followed by the direct bombings of Iran's nuclear facilities by the United States.
Prior to Moscow, Araghchi attended an emergency Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Istanbul, convened to address Israel’s assault on Iran.
The conflict expanded further when the United States struck Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday, marking its direct involvement.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei had warned that U.S. intervention would lead to “irreparable harm.”
