The shooting took place at about 7pm in Juhu, close to Pushpa Park, as Shroff was leaving a birthday gathering, according to multiple reports. Officers quoted in reports said three men, all in white shirts, fled on the motorcycle towards a nearby railway station. The car was struck a few hundred metres from the local police station.

Shroff’s driver was shot in the left hand and taken to Nanavati Hospital. A second man was admitted to Cooper Hospital with a gunshot wound; one account describes him as an onlooker, another as an autorickshaw driver. Early reports said the actor had suffered abrasions when the car’s windows shattered but Shroff was not hurt. Forensic examination is ongoing.

Officers were reviewing CCTV recordings to identify the attackers and trace their escape route. Police were recording a formal complaint and asking Shroff whether he had received any threats.

A social media post purportedly written by two men claimed responsibility and warned others in the Hindi film industry against working with the actor Salman Khan. Police said they were verifying the post, whose authenticity has not been established.

Maharashtra’s chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, spoke to the city’s police commissioner and ordered a swift investigation, and telephoned Shroff.
