According to an official statement issued on Saturday, the visit is expected to see the signing of a Defence Industrial Cooperation Roadmap, alongside an implementing arrangement for cooperation in training related to United Nations peacekeeping operations, in the presence of both defence ministers.
The visit will also serve to review ongoing defence cooperation initiatives and identify new areas of collaboration between the defence industries of the two countries. Singh is expected to engage with key representatives of the German defence sector to promote joint development and co-production under India’s Make-in-India initiative.
The trip marks the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Germany in seven years, following the February 2019 visit by then Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
It also follows German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius’s visit to India in June 2023, during which both sides held extensive discussions on defence cooperation.
India and Germany share a multifaceted strategic partnership grounded in democratic values, rule of law and a shared commitment to a rules-based international order. Defence and security cooperation has emerged as a key pillar of this relationship, with the current visit aimed at further deepening bilateral ties while contributing to regional and global stability.
