Originally established by the Defence Minister’s Committee in 1949, Flag Day remains one of India’s oldest post-independence observances. It was created to reinforce the civilian responsibility to support those who defend the nation.
Funds raised on this day have historically gone toward rehabilitation, resettlement and welfare schemes for serving soldiers, veterans, disabled personnel and war widows.
