Indian PM Modi’s Independence Day 2025 Address Charts Roadmap for Development, Self-Reliance Push, and Next-Gen Tech Goals

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today used his 79th Independence Day address to outline an accelerated roadmap for Viksit Bharat by 2047; announcing sweeping governance reforms, deepening self-reliance in defence, energy and technology, and a new phase of economic modernisation aimed at making India globally competitive.

 Speaking from the Red Fort, he described the past decade as one of reforming, performing and transforming; said the next era will move forward with greater strength; pledged a modern, efficient, citizen-friendly governance ecosystem where laws are simplified, entrepreneurship encouraged, and every Indian empowered to contribute to national progress.

He said more than 40,000 unnecessary compliances had been abolished, over 1,500 outdated laws repealed, dozens simplified in Parliament; in the latest session alone, 280 provisions were removed. 

Income tax reforms now provide zero tax up to ₹12 lakh; faceless assessment has improved transparency; colonial-era criminal laws have been replaced with the Indian Justice Code. 

These measures, he stressed, are not just economic but transform daily life by making governance simpler, fairer and more accessible.

The Prime Minister announced a Task Force for Next-Generation Reforms to review all economic laws, rules and procedures; its mandate includes cutting compliance costs for startups and MSMEs, ending arbitrary legal actions, and streamlining processes to ease business activity. 

Next-Generation GST reforms will be introduced by Diwali to reduce taxes on daily-use items; he called it a “Diwali gift” aimed at directly benefiting citizens and stimulating demand.

Placing Atmanirbhar Bharat at the heart of his vision, PM Modi cited Operation Sindoor as proof of defence self-reliance; said indigenous weapons systems now enable decisive, independent action; urged domestic development of jet engines. 

He announced that Made-in-India semiconductor chips will debut by the end of 2025; called for leadership in AI, cybersecurity, deep-tech and operating systems. 

In the space sector, he lauded Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s international mission; revealed plans for an Indian Space Station; said over 300 startups are innovating in satellites, exploration and space tech.

On energy, PM Modi declared India had reached its 50% clean energy target for 2030 five years early; credited advances in solar, nuclear, hydro and hydrogen. Ten new nuclear reactors are operational; nuclear capacity will increase tenfold by 2047 with private sector participation. 

The National Critical Minerals Mission is exploring 1,200 sites to secure resources essential for energy, industry and defence; the National Deepwater Exploration Mission will harness offshore energy to cut foreign fuel dependence.

He urged domestic fertiliser production to protect farmers and food security; called for indigenous social media platforms to secure digital sovereignty; pressed for pharmaceutical innovation to strengthen India’s role as the “pharmacy of the world” by developing and patenting medicines, vaccines and life-saving treatments entirely at home. 

Drawing from India’s COVID-19 response, he urged researchers to expand innovation for global health.

PM Modi renewed the “Vocal for Local” appeal; urged shopkeepers to display Swadeshi boards and citizens to choose Indian products from pride, not compulsion. 

He announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra to neutralise enemy defence infiltrations and enhance offensive capabilities; linked it to the cultural symbol of Lord Krishna’s weapon, blending tradition with modern strategy.

The Indian Prime Minister urged unity of purpose across youth, entrepreneurs, scientists, farmers and armed forces; said India must extend its own line of progress rather than measure against others; called self-reliance the bedrock of dignity, security and prosperity; and pledged to build an India where governance serves the people, technology empowers all, and resilience defines the nation’s place in the world.
