Indian PM Modi Calls for Peaceful Borders and Stronger India–China Ties in Meeting With President Xi Jinping in Tianjin
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, his first bilateral engagement with the Chinese leader since their meeting in Kazan last year.
Modi expressed appreciation for Xi’s warm welcome and congratulated him on the successful hosting of the SCO Summit.

The Prime Minister underscored that the welfare of 2.8 billion people combined is closely tied to the state of India–China ties.
“This (our relationship) can pave the way for the welfare of humanity as a whole,” he said, adding that both nations have a responsibility to strengthen stability in Asia and beyond.
Modi stated India’s commitment to advancing bilateral ties on the basis of vishwas, samaan, aur samvedanshilta — trust, mutual respect, and sensitivity.

Thanking President Xi once again for the invitation and the opportunity to meet, Modi said India looks forward to working closely with China to deepen cooperation across areas of mutual interest and to ensure that bilateral ties contribute to broader global peace and prosperity.
