Pahalgam Terrorists Identified, Justice Imminent: LG Manoj Sinha on Pahalgam Attack Fallout

Nearly three months after the horrifying Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, India's Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha confirmed that the assailants have been identified and that their elimination is only a matter of time.

Speaking at Gandhi Smriti during a lecture titled ‘Jammu and Kashmir: Towards Peace’, Sinha stated that India’s military response via Operation Sindoor had already sent a resounding message to Pakistan.

He assured the public that the individuals responsible for the April 22 massacre—where terrorists from Pakistan targeted tourists in the high meadows above Pahalgam—are now in crosshairs.

While refusing to offer a specific timeline, the Lieutenant Governor hinted at swift justice, aligning his statement with past operational outcomes in which top terrorist commanders were neutralized.

His remarks come amid growing national unease and criticism over the apparent intelligence lapse that allowed the Pahalgam massacre to happen. 

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has publicly demanded accountability, urging both the Centre and state security agencies to face hard questions about systemic vulnerabilities.

The attack, which saw armed men dressed in traditional pherans target civilians based on their religion, stunned a nation that believed the valley was returning to peace. 

Many of the victims were families and honeymooners, including foreign nationals.

Operation Sindoor, launched by India on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. 

While the cross-border response was immediate and severe, the attackers themselves had remained unidentified—until now.

The public, still reeling from the emotional impact of the tragedy, had grown increasingly frustrated. 

In the aftermath, the government ramped up surveillance, blocked unregistered access to tourist zones, and imposed stricter border monitoring. 

But questions persisted: Who were the attackers? How did they escape? And why hadn’t justice been delivered?

Now, the Lieutenant Governor’s assurance offers a shift in tone—from silence to resolution.

While victims’ families still await closure and civil society continues to call for a transparent investigation, this marks the first official signal that a decisive breakthrough has occurred.

The administration, under Sinha, has also emphasised the importance of community unity. 

India awaits a closure and mere promises will not be sufficient against the rising tide of national scrutiny.
