Modi, Starmer Sign India-UK Trade Deal; King Charles, PMs Launch Vision 2035 on Climate, Tech, Defence and Education
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer formalized a sweeping new strategic roadmap--India-UK Vision 2035--and signed the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), marking a pivotal shift in bilateral relations.
The announcements were made during Modi’s official visit to the United Kingdom, which included high-level engagements with King Charles III at Sandringham and major industry leaders in London.

The two discussed sustainable living, Ayurveda, Yoga, climate change, and Commonwealth collaboration. As a gesture, Modi presented a sapling for the UK’s green campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” which will be planted at Sandringham Estate.
The centrepiece of the visit, however, was the launch of the India-UK Vision 2035, a comprehensive strategic blueprint focused on growth, technology, security, climate action, education, and innovation.
The Vision sets clear timelines, sectoral targets, and institutional frameworks to reshape bilateral cooperation across a wide array of domains.

At a joint industry dialogue, both Prime Ministers celebrated the CETA, calling it a “historic” agreement that will boost trade, investment, jobs, and innovation.
The pact was praised by business leaders from sectors including pharmaceuticals, technology, energy, manufacturing, and finance, who showcased flagship innovations from both nations.
The India–UK Vision 2035 outlines commitments across key pillars:
-
Economic Growth: Full implementation of CETA, increased capital market connectivity, and progress toward a Bilateral Investment Treaty.
-
Technology & Innovation: Joint R&D in AI, critical minerals, semiconductors, 6G, and biotechnologies; a UK–India Joint AI Centre was announced.
-
Climate & Energy: Ambitious collaboration on offshore wind, net-zero innovation, clean hydrogen, and reform of global green finance.
-
Defence & Security: A 10-year Defence Roadmap, deeper military interoperability, cyber resilience, and maritime security cooperation.
-
Education & Talent: A new India–UK Education Dialogue, expansion of dual-degree programs, and UK university campuses in India.
The two nations also reaffirmed their shared commitment to multilateral reform, including changes to the UN Security Council and institutions like the WTO and IMF.
