The incident occurred on an ICE express train traveling from Hamburg to Vienna, between Straubing and Plattling in Bavaria. Around 500 people were on board at the time. The attacker was overpowered by passengers and was also injured. He is in police custody and receiving medical treatment.
Emergency services were alerted around 2 PM after the train’s emergency brake was activated near Straรkirchen. Police, firefighters, and medical teams — totaling about 150 personnel, including helicopters — responded. The rail line was temporarily closed.
The Bavarian Red Cross established a care center for affected passengers, and psychological support was provided on-site. No motive has been disclosed. All four injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.
