India's National Investigation Agency Arrests Two Locals for Sheltering Terrorists Behind Pahalgam Attack

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested two men for allegedly providing shelter and support to the terrorists behind the deadly April 22 Pahalgam attack. The suspects, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park — both residents of Pahalgam — are accused of harbouring three armed terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

According to the NIA, the duo offered the attackers food, shelter, and logistical support, allowing them to hide in a seasonal hut (dhok) in Hill Park ahead of the assault. During interrogation, Parvaiz and Bashir reportedly confirmed that the assailants were Pakistani nationals.

The Pahalgam attack, which targeted tourists in Baisaran Valley based on religious identity, left 26 people dead and 16 others injured, making it one of the most brutal terror incidents in the region in recent years. The case, registered as RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU, continues to be under active investigation as authorities probe a larger conspiracy.

The two accused have been charged under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
