Global Celebrations Kick Off Ahead of International Yoga Day 2025
Preparations are underway across continents for the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21. A closer scrutiny of the recent social media trends highlights yoga’s global reach and enduring appeal.
In Kazakhstan, the Indian Army training team and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre held a special session at the National Defence University in Astana, focusing on yoga’s role in stress relief and wellness for Kazakh armed forces.

Myanmar saw a similar engagement, with 45 Burmese officers joining Indian Army personnel and the Defence Services Academy for a yoga session underscoring fitness, resilience, and inner peace.
In Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture, alongside the Indian Mission, led large-scale celebrations with participation from government, defence, and civil institutions. ASEAN headquarters in Jakarta hosted a dedicated yoga session organised by India’s Mission to ASEAN, reflecting the practice’s growing integration into the region’s cultural fabric.
Back home, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy announced that International Yoga Day 2025 will be celebrated in over 200 countries, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the main event in Visakhapatnam.
In Nepal, hundreds gathered at Pokhara’s Fewa Lakeside, with sessions organised as part of a 75-day awareness campaign leading up to the main event.
Yoga’s rising popularity is equally visible in France, where over 7 million practitioners and 10,000 teachers in Paris alone continue to strengthen India-France cultural ties.
In Washington DC, hundreds participated at the iconic Lincoln Memorial under the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’.
At Expo 2025 Osaka, young visitors joined 'Yoga for Youth' workshops at the India Pavilion, while India’s Coast Guard held sessions at Air Station Chennai and Mandapam, embodying yoga’s holistic benefits for service personnel.
Adopted by the United Nations in 2014 on India’s initiative, International Day of Yoga reflects yoga’s ancient Indian roots and its growing role in promoting global physical and mental well-being.
