The statement comes amid ongoing Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites, which have triggered a severe escalation between the two countries in recent days.
The leaders emphasized that Israel’s security remains a priority, while also stressing the need for the protection of civilians as fighting intensifies.
They identified Iran as the principal source of regional instability and terrorism, reiterating their unified position that Tehran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
The G7 also called for a resolution to the current crisis that would contribute to a broader de-escalation across the region, including a ceasefire in Gaza. The leaders acknowledged the potential global impact of the conflict on energy markets and pledged to coordinate with international partners to safeguard market stability.
The Kananaskis meeting marks the G7’s 50th anniversary, with Canada currently holding the group’s rotating presidency.
This year’s summit is taking place against the backdrop of multiple global crises, including the Israel-Iran conflict, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and heightened trade tensions.
India, along with few other nations, is participating as an invited outreach country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi representing New Delhi at the summit.
