Canada Vows Zero Tolerance on Terrorism, Marks 40 Years Since Air India Flight 182 Bombing
“Canada’s new government unequivocally stands against terrorism,” Prime Minister Mark Carney declared Monday, as the country marked 40 years since the Air India Flight 182 bombing — the deadliest terrorist attack in Canadian history.
The 1985 mid-air explosion, caused by a bomb planted by Canada-based Khalistani terrorists, killed all 329 people on board, including 268 Canadians, most of Indian descent.

His election in March has raised hopes for a diplomatic reset with India following years of strained ties.
At a memorial event in Ireland’s Ahakista, Canada’s Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree joined India’s Hardeep Puri and Irish Prime Minister MicheΓ‘l Martin to honor the victims.
Puri called for deeper intelligence cooperation and counter-terror efforts, stating: “India stands ready to do more.”
Canadian opposition leader Chandra Arya wrote on X: “The bomb, planted on Canadian soil by Khalistani extremists, exploded mid-flight, shattering families and leaving a legacy of grief that still echoes today.”
