BTS Prepares for Long-Awaited Comeback After Completing Military Service

All seven members of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS have now fulfilled South Korea’s mandatory military service requirements.

Suga, who served as a social service agent due to a past shoulder injury, was the final member to complete his duties on Wednesday, marking the full return of the group.

The other six members — RM, Jin, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook — had already concluded their service, with Jin finishing in June 2024 and j-hope following in October.

RM, V, Jimin, and Jung Kook were discharged earlier this month, clearing the path for the band’s full reunion later this year.

BTS, short for Bangtan Sonyeondan ("Bulletproof Boy Scouts"), debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment (now HYBE). They quickly rose to global stardom, breaking into the U.S. market in 2017 when their single “DNA” entered the Billboard Hot 100 — the first Korean boy band to do so. Their international profile grew with high-profile performances, including a milestone appearance at the American Music Awards.

The group has since achieved multiple platinum-certified records, including hits like “Dynamite,” “Butter,” “Mic Drop,” and “Map of the Soul: 7,” along with collaborations such as “My Universe” with Coldplay and “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey.

In 2020, “Dynamite” made history as the first song by an entirely South Korean act to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. BTS has also earned multiple Grammy nominations, setting records for K-pop acts in the global music industry.

With their military service now behind them, BTS’s full-scale return is highly anticipated by millions of fans worldwide, signaling a new chapter for the group that helped propel K-pop to unprecedented global heights.
