NHRC Seeks Report on Arrest of Ashoka University Professor, Takes Suo Motu Cognizance

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the arrest and remand of a professor from Ashoka University in Haryana, citing possible violation of human rights and personal liberty.

Referring to a media report dated May 20, 2025, the NHRC noted that the contents of the report, which outlined the basis for the arrest, raised concerns warranting its intervention.

The Commission has issued a notice to the Director General of Police, Haryana, seeking a detailed report within one week.
