On May 29, Peters held bilateral talks with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Discussions covered a broad range of areas including trade, defence, security, traditional medicine, sports, education, and people-to-people ties. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments and reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

Peters conveyed New Zealand’s strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed solidarity with the people of India. He also met leaders of the Indian opposition parties, particularly Congress MP and LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

The visit follows New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s official visit to India in March 2025 and reflects the strengthening of bilateral ties rooted in shared democratic values and expanding cooperation across sectors.
