Jaishankar, Cypriot Foreign Minister Discuss Closer India-EU Cooperation, Counter-Terrorism Support

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos on May 30, reaffirming the strong bilateral ties between India and Cyprus and discussing ways to enhance India-EU cooperation.

During the exchange, Jaishankar thanked Cyprus for its consistent support to India in combatting terrorism, noting its longstanding partnership on security and multilateral issues. “Appreciate the support consistently extended by Cyprus in combatting terrorism,” he said in a post following the call.

Kombos described the discussion as a “productive exchange” and reiterated Cyprus’s commitment to strengthening ties with India, particularly in light of the upcoming Cypriot presidency of the Council of the European Union. Both leaders expressed support for expanding collaboration in strategic areas under the India-EU framework.

The conversation comes as India continues to deepen its diplomatic engagement across Europe, aligning with key partners on global security, economic cooperation, and regional stability.
