India Condemns Killing of Israeli Diplomats in Washington

India on Thursday strongly condemned the killing of two Israeli embassy staff members in Washington, D.C., calling it a “heinous act” and demanding justice for the victims. The incident took place late Wednesday outside the Capital Jewish Museum, prompting a swift response from U.S. authorities, who confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed India’s condolences and solidarity with Israel in a post on social media platform X. “Condemn in the strongest terms the killing of Israeli diplomats in Washington D.C. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and colleagues. The perpetrators must be brought to justice,” he wrote.

The U.S. government has launched an investigation into the shooting, which occurred in one of Washington's high-security zones. The motive behind the attack has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Israeli authorities have not released the names of the victims but confirmed that both were staff members at the embassy. The incident has drawn international condemnation, with calls for enhanced protection of diplomatic personnel worldwide.

India and Israel maintain close strategic ties, including cooperation in defence, agriculture, and cybersecurity. New Delhi has consistently condemned acts of terrorism and attacks targeting diplomats and foreign missions.

The Indian government is closely monitoring developments in the case.
