India Highlights Indigenous Defence Strength at LIMA 2025 in Malaysia
Langkawi, May 20 — India opened its national pavilion at the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) on Monday, showcasing a range of indigenous defence technologies as part of a larger push to position itself as a key player in global defence manufacturing.
The Indian delegation, led by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, attended the opening ceremony of the five-day exhibition, which was inaugurated by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim. Held in Langkawi, the biennial event is considered one of the most significant defence and aerospace exhibitions in the Asia-Pacific region.
The India Pavilion, inaugurated by Seth, features equipment and systems from major Defence Public Sector Undertakings and private companies. Notable displays include the BrahMos missile system and Dornier aircraft manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, both central to India’s export ambitions and defence indigenisation programme.
Seth also visited other exhibition stalls and met with senior officials and dignitaries from participating countries.
India’s participation comes against the backdrop of a growing defence relationship with Malaysia. The two countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar’s visit to India in 2024. Defence and security cooperation are key pillars of the partnership.
An Indian Naval Ship is also scheduled to participate in LIMA 2025, further underlining India’s maritime engagement in the region.
First held in 1991, LIMA has evolved into a major platform for defence diplomacy and industry collaboration, drawing participants from across the world to showcase and explore developments in aerospace and naval technology.
